Laser Assisted Hatching

Laser Assisted Hatching: Use of LASER for Assisted Hatching is a “Embryo Surgery” carried out to perfection using LASER.The Zona Pellucida (Outer covering of embryo) is drilled leading to softening of this covering shell or making a small whole in the Zona Pellucida covering. This helps the embryo within the Zona, hatch out and attach (implant ) to the inner lining of mother’s uterus (endometrium ).,thereby improving pregnancy rates. This technique is particularly helpful in :-

  1. Women greater than 35 years of age,
  2. Women with high levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH )
  3. Women with Recurrent ICSI failures (test tube baby failures )
  4. In cases of Frozen Embryo Transfers.

Vitrification of Oocytes,Zygotes,Embryos,and Blastocysts;-

Vitrification is a technique of Cryopreservation that is very efficient and doesnot require programmable freezing. Pregnancy rates after Vitrified Embryo Transfer are very high compared to programmed freezing. This is because the retrieval rates for embryos afterde vitrification are to the extent of 97 percent. Thus, the surplus embryos that remain after initial embryos transfer can be vitrified and transferred in the subsequent month in case the current embryo transfer doesnot result in pregnancy.

Vitrification is also a technique of fertility preservation, for example,a young woman can vitrify and preserve her oocytes (eggs ) to be fertilized at a later date in her life without losing on the age of oocytes.Similarly vitrification can be used for fertility preservation for a woman who is likely to be treated with chemotherapy/ radiation therapy which can damage the oocytes within her ovary. Thus, oocyte vitrifiaction is like–” Woman’s emancipation set in stone !”

Vitrification can also be uesd for couples where the husband has to work away from home, for example working offshore for months together but still wants to give his wife the chance of pregnancy,by vitrifying the embryos out of their treatment, to transferred even while he is away from home.

IMSI Technique
Intracytoplasmic Mophologically Selected Sperm Injection. In the prevalent ICSI technique, the sperm is magnified 200 times whereas in the IMSI technique the sperm is magnified 7000 times. Only the morphologically normal sperm under this magnification is used for ICSI by our embryologist.
